Another grant - for Spring Close!

We applied for a Member Empowerment Fund grant and Helen Harrison, the Ward Councillor, put forward £500 for us and it was recently approved. The project is to replace fencing at Spring Close, plant a new, native tree and dedicate it with a plaque to the late Queen, to enhance this relaxing, peaceful and open space.  Work will start once the payment is received.  Also, the Maple tree there has been recently removed due to it being diseased and the works recommended by the tree surveyor.  She also assessed the other Poplars and the Council decided to take her overall advice on balance and leave them and keep surveying them regularly.

Playing field: Electricity, old swings and the car park

You may have seen that the old swing seats have been removed and this was for safety reasons. The swings have been condemned by safety inspectors.  The frame will be removed once the grass is dry enough for heavier transport.  You may have also noticed the car park is pretty muddy these days.  It has been looked at by the contractor and will be addressed in the better weather by sowing more grass seed and hoping it takes well. There may be more done if necessary.  Please take care using the car park until then.

Also, a decision on the grant for permanent electricity supply is due by the end of January - watch this space!

Wittering Premiair Football Club volunteer request

The football club that play at the playing fields has asked if there is anyone locally who would like to help them with rabbit hole filling before matches and running the bar (no cash is handled) during and after the matches.  If you would like to get involved, help out, or just get some work experience, please contact the Clerk, details below.

Planning Committee meetings

There was no meeting this month as there were no new planning applications. Keep an eye on the website and notice board as dates for meetings may change due to a slow amount of applications.

Grit bins

A reminder that if the icy weather continues, the Parish Council grit bins are available for members of the public to help themselves to use on the roads.

"STOP PRESS" - Late News, the grant from Augean for installing a permanent electricity supply to the pavilion has been approved!  The plan was to combine this with some PC Funds and grant funding raised by the cricket club to complete this much needed installation. It would mean we can use the pavilion facilities without a generator and users can have hot showers, run fridges, and have reliable lighting. The basic amenities are essential for players of all sports.
Ironically the Cricket Club is now struggling to survive. The Chairman has resigned and the small committee desperately needs support and leadership as well as players to continue in some form. CAN YOU HELP? Ian Coupe would I'm sure welcome anyone with an interest in the game and some organisational skills to help resuscitate this long standing village organisation.

Happy to pass on any offers of help,
Tim Nicol
